Commitment to Community

Compass supports creative community outreach programmes where-ever possible - and was was involved in 2007, in contributing toward a local effort at Kwa Thintwa School for the Deaf in Hammersdale in Kwa Zulu Natal. A derelict old Workshop was gutted, plumbed and refurbished as a dormitory, to the joy and excitement of the potential matriculants, who now have a place to stay, in order to complete their education. Kwa Thintwa means ‘to be touched' which it is impossible not to be by this very special school for under-privleged deaf children, we have been able to make a difference to.

In 2008 Compass has contributed to the building fund for the Hillcrest Aids Centre. The "bricks of hope" project is to fund a respite and pallative centre that cares for anyone who has become too sick to care for themselves and does not have a caregiver at home. The centre is down the road from our Head Office and has welcomed Compass staff getting involved on the weekends in their tea garden and in contributing to the various outreach projects they run.
